There is no disputing that Johann Rupert and Patrice Motsepe are among the wealthiest people on the planet.

According to Forbes, Johann Rupert is worth an estimated $11.6 billion while Motsepe’s net worth is sitting at a stable $3 billion.

Both Rupert and Motsepe love sports dearly and have expressed so in multiple interviews and by also putting their money where their mouth is…..

In 2003, Motsepe bought a 51% shareholding stake in Sundowns to partner with its then owners.

Mamelodi Sundowns

In 2004, he fully acquired the club and officially renamed it to Mamelodi Sundowns. Renaming the club was a nod to its heritage in Eersterus, Laudium, Atteridgeville, and the club’s home in Mamelodi.
