This Kenyan Game Inspired The Name of Mofaya Energy Drink

According to Mofaya’s co-founder, Siphiwe Shongwe, the name behind Mofaya stems from a Kenyan dance play done in theaters called MO FAYA.

The purpose of the dance show isn’t to benefit organizers of the concert but rather, to raise funds for the poor and help them with going to school and also improving their livelihoods in undeveloped housing areas like shacks.

The name resonated well with Siphiwe because he too grew up in the squatter camps of Kliptown, so he knows the harshness and realities poor people go through on a daily basis.

To this day, the company is still carrying Mofaya’s intended purpose. For every can that’s bought for R10, a small portion of the proceeds goes to a fund that serves charitable purposes.

In this way, many kids are sent to school, squatter camps are improved and the township economy gets revitalized. So go out there and buy that Mofaya Energy Drink, it’s for a great course.
