Cape Winelands Airport: What we know so far about the project

Developers have moved ahead this month, in commencing the phase of their project which will see environmental approval for the redevelopment and expansion of Cape Winelands Airport near Cape Town (South Africa) into an international commercial airport.

The estimated cost of Phase 1 of the project is R7 billion. The expansion includes realigning the primary runway with an orientation of 01-19 and a length of 3,500 metres and building a passenger terminal with a capacity of 5.2 million annual passengers.

Other developments, such as a cargo terminals, aircraft hangars, a hotel, and landside commercial real estate, will be developed according to market demand. The Master Plan and several specialist aviation studies were carried out by the local office of NACO, Netherlands Airport Consultants.
