In late 2017 after several delays, the Graskop Lift Company launched its viewing lift, which is the first viewing lift on the African continent. The lift takes visitors down into the gorge to experience its spectacular views and once-in-a-lifetime adventures.

The lift has been built on the rugged face of the cliff that goes down into the gorge and shows the views of the Afromontane forests and Motitsi Waterfall due to the glasses on the sides.

The Panorama Gorge Waterfall plummets over 70 metres down into the gorge below and is a sight to behold. According to Graskop Lift Company, the lift can take approximately 26 people and the descent takes a few minutes.
Once you reach the bottom, you can have the opportunity go out and explore the gorge on a circular trail. There are walkways and massive platforms from where to enjoy the fauna and flora around you, as well as educational posters and exhibits. The trail going through the forests is about 600 metres long, but will give you plenty of adventure with its suspension bridges and elevated boardwalks.

There’s also Selfie Spots for some impressive backdrops to your selfie folder. It doesn’t end there, there are plenty of other little gems along the way.
The whole experience is fabulous for the families. Those who aren’t afraid can take a chance on the Big Swing, which lets them soar from the safety of a harness, high above the land.
The centre at the top of the gorge has an African art gallery, Afro-centric fashion items, a curio shop, and a community fuelled arts and crafts market. There is also a restaurant that offers delicious food and local craft beers.
You may think these are the only features that make the Graskop Gorge Lift so special but that isn’t the case, there’s so much more to it. The sounds of the birds, the feel of the sunshine hitting your face, and the fresh air of the mountains make it such a memorable and special place to discover.
